Top 8 Getting Ready Tips For The Bride
IT’S YOUR WEDDING DAY, and the last thing you want is more stress! Here are a few tips and trick to remember for you morning of your wedding that will help eliminate as much stress as possible. In my years of experience as a wedding photographer and as a past bride myself these tricks have helped save several of my beautiful brides as well as myself from any added stress the day of your wedding. Let’s be honest you really should be enjoying your day and not stressing about it!
Be sure to EAT!
If there is one thing that is more important that getting ready for your wedding is eating and feeding your wedding party! Depending on the time of your wedding, breakfast and lunch are during the getting ready portion of the day. I always suggest planning this out in advance with ordering catering or having someone in charge of cooking the food. Think about it, if you forge to eat before the ceremony, dinner in usually not served until 6-7pm and if you are anything like me… this will leave you plenty of time to get hangry and enjoy your day less.
Get your Hair and Makeup done first or somewhere in the middle, but never last.
Most of the time, bridal hair and makeup takes longer than that of the bridesmaids. Knocking out your HAMU before anyone else can help save of time and gives you plenty of time to relax once you are finished. Rushing to get into your dress and start photos as soon as you are done with your HAMU can be stressful and gives you no time to enjoy the getting ready process. This is also a great time to eat!
Do not wear a bra the night before and while you are getting ready.
People underestimate the length of time it takes for our skin to get rid of bra lines. Photographer, like myself, will take the time to edit out your bra lines, but trust me when I say from experience your photographer will love you even more if you avoid bra line all together. Of course, if your dress allows for you to wear a bra then you do not have to be as aware of bra straps but be sure to wear the appropriate bra for your dress all day, or something similar.
Do not drink too much.
I feel like this is a pretty self-explanatory tip but most of the time you just don’t think about it the day of. You will have plenty of time to drink during your reception and party it up after you marry the love of your life. However, be careful how much you drink before your ceremony. The last thing you want to do is not remember your day or walk down the aisle intoxicated.
Drink plenty of water.
Staying hydrated is important in all aspects of life but during a high stress day it is even more important. I always suggest having a medium to large water bottle in your getting ready suite full of water. This will eliminate the need to have to find water and will give you a sense of how much water you have drank throughout your morning. My personal trick to drinking more water is when I see it, I drink it, even if I just took a sip a couple of minutes ago.
Designate a person to help the photographer and videographer as needed.
I always suggest to my couples to have a box set aside with all your detail items. This helps everyone out so much but sometimes things get left out or are needed before we can get to those detail photos. Having that one person in charge of those items can take a lot of stress off you during the day. This person should already be finished with HAMU so I suggest them getting ready right before or right after the bride. Also make sure this person knows everything that you wish to have photographed and where it is located.
Designate or hire an assistant.
This can your maid of honor, your mom, or even your wedding planner. This person is in charge of helping you through the day. If you need something they can go and get it or if you are in the middle of HAMU and need a snack, they would be the one to bring it to you so you do not have to get up. It is important that this person is will you for the majority of the time so you are never alone.
Have fun!
This is going to be the best day of your life. All your planning is complete, and your day is finally here. Have fun with your wedding party, let loose, and go with the flow.
